Lifeboats News Release
Mavis Paling, 72, has been tirelessly sewing and selling dog bandanas for the last few years to raise money for the RNLI and has now turned her hand to face masks.

With her usual selling spots closed, such as her daughter's pub, the Black Horse in Whitby, and fundraising events cancelled, Mavis decided to come up with another way of fund raising for the charity.
She recently donated 30 face masks featuring an anchor pattern to the Whitby RNLI volunteer crew, and has sold a further 120 for a pound each, these latest sales sent her total to an amazing £22,000.
Mavis' daughter Sue said: 'We've nicknamed her 'Super-Mave' as she has sewn literally hundreds of dog bandanas and now face masks, we would like to thank those who have kindly donated fabric to Mavis to help her in her fund raising efforts.'
Howard Fields Whitby RNLI Coxswain said: 'Thank you Mavis from us all at Whitby RNLI, what an incredible achievement for one person to raise such a staggering amount, without people like Mavis we wouldn't be able to operate, and continue to save lives at sea.'

The RNLI is independent of Coastguard and government and depends on voluntary donations and legacies to maintain its rescue service. Since the RNLI was founded in 1824, its lifeboat crews and lifeguards have saved over 146,000 lives.
