Newquay RNLI crew tow yacht to safety in foggy conditions

The charity's Atlantic 85 inshore lifeboat Gladys Mildred was launched in foggy conditions and a light north westerly breeze. When they reached the scene, the RNLI volunteers secured a tow line to the yacht and safely towed her to Newquay Harbour, arriving back at 11.50am.

The lifeboat crew were called out again at 1.38 pm on Thursday 13 August to assist the same yacht which had experienced engine failure off Baker's Folly, East Pentire.

Odyssey, a local wildlife adventure boat skippered by one of the lifeboat crew, towed the stricken boat and her skipper to the Fly Cellars near to Newquay Harbour, where the Coastguard requested the lifeboat crew’s assistance to manoeuvre the yacht into harbour as the Odyssey was carrying passengers.

The RNLI crew on the Atlantic 85 inshore lifeboat recovered the yacht in a light breeze and towed her back into the safety of the harbour at around 2.20pm.
