Youghal RNLI called to help four people on board a yacht

The 46ft yacht was in need of assistance due to engine problems. Upon reaching the vessel the crew established that all four people on board were safe and well, one RNLI crew member then boarded the vessel and established a tow rope between the yacht and the inshore lifeboat. The yacht was safely towed back to the mooring were it was unable to be secured safely due to the possibility of very low tides, it was then towed to the pontoon and safely secured. The lifeboat returned to the station at 11.00 pm.

Two call outs were also received on Saturday 31 August. The first was to a what turned out to be a piece of floating timber, the lifeboat was stood down shortly after launch. The second call was received from Youghal Coast Guard at 4.35 pm to attend a sinking boat in market dock. Due to heavy rains and swell the evening before the boat had taken on too much water and was sinking. The volunteer crew entered the water to help the owner of the boat secure lines before a tow was established and it was taken to the slip were it was secured. The lifeboat returned to the station at 5.05pm

Derry Walsh Youghal RNLI Lifeboat Operations Manager said after the shout : ‘It has been a busy weekend for our volunteer crew, with three call-outs in two days, but this is why we train every week, to make sure we are always ready to help whenever a call comes in’ he went on to say ‘ ’Engine trouble is one of the main reasons for RNLI callouts, problems can occur at anytime being prepared is key, Always carry a form of communication with you and make sure that everybody knows how to use it and who to call in an emergency, 112 or 99 and ask for the Coast Guard’
