Sunday morning dog walk to support Llandudno Lifeboat
Members of the crew with the inshore lifeboat and RNLI mascot ‘Stormy Sam’ were joined by the local community to complete a walk from Llandudno Pier to the Boathouse in Craig y don yesterday, Sunday 19 May.
The walk also provided an opportunity to share a very important community safety message with dog owners.
A RNLI spokesperson explained, ‘our advice is always keep your dog on a lead when walking close to cliff edges. If your dog gets into trouble, or you see someone in trouble in the water, call 999 or 112 and ask for the coastguard straight away. Never attempt to rescue them yourself.’
Members of the crew were on hand at the boathouse to talk about their volunteering duties and the current RNLI Mayday fundraising events which have a yellow welly theme, in reference to the kit that the volunteer lifeboat crew members wear when they go out to sea.
Meanwhile the supporters team provided refreshments for the walkers and goodies for the dogs. Sue Perkins who is the lead fundraiser at Llandudno said, ‘it was great to see so many people at the boathouse joining in the dog walk. We are very grateful to them for their kind support and also to the local businesses who kindly donated items for the refreshment stall and goodies for the dogs.’
