After launching and recovering lifeboats with Case tractors since 1988 and with the current tractor in service on the beach since 1996, the station took possession of the Talus Crawler T119 on Saturday 29 June. Formerly on service at Hastings lifeboat station, the tractor was sent back to Clayton Engineering for adaptations to be made to enable it to be used with the B 85 Atlantic lifeboat Donald McLauchlan at Walmer.

The Coast Support team of Mark Perry, Ed Kilsbey and Davy Wallace put the crew through their paces with a week of Transition Training and beach trials enabling crew to familiarise themselves with the vehicle and attached trailer on the shelving beach, culminating with launch and recovery procedures.

Speaking on Saturday morning after the training Mark said ‘The crew were more than receptive to the training, one of the best I’ve worked with in a long time.’
