Wicklow RNLI assist two onboard fishing boat with rope fouled propeller
Wicklow RNLI brought two fishermen to safety this afternoon (Monday 24 June) after their seven-metre vessel got into difficulties eight miles south of Wicklow harbour near Brittas Bay beach
The all-weather lifeboat Jock and Annie Slater put to sea shortly after 2-15pm under the command of Coxswain Nick Keogh and a volunteer crew, following a launch request from the Irish Coast Guard to assist a fishing vessel with a rope fouled propeller.
The stricken fishing vessel was located twenty minutes later at the South end of Brittas bay, near Potter’s Point. Conditions on scene were wind south easterly force two with sea state slight and good visibility.
A towline was established, and the fishing vessel was towed south to Arklow harbour. Once the boat was secured and the two fishermen landed safely ashore the lifeboat returned to Wicklow.
The crew on the callout were Coxswain Nick Keogh, Mechanic Brendan Copeland, Tom McAulay, Graham Fitzgerald and Connie O’ Gara.
