Both Poole Lifeboats and Swanage Lifeboat were tasked yesterday (June 22) to a 24 metre vessel reporting a fire onboard.

Launching at 6pm Poole lifeboat was onscene just 13 minutes later followed shortly by Swanage and then Poole D class. Enroute information came through that the fire had been extinguished, however, on arrival the fire was reported to have restarted and they had four people onboard with two dogs.

Two of the four people and two dogs onboard were taken off by Poole D and transferred to Swanage Lifeboat for further assessment.

The skipper had reported the fire was now out and two lifeboat crew from Poole transferred across onto the vessel.

One of the casualties on Swanage Lifeboat deteriorated and an immediate evacuation was required, an ambulance was requested to North Haven point.

Poole lifeboat evacuated one further person off the vessel leaving Poole D class to stand by the casualty vessel whilst Poole and Swanage were evacuating casualties to North Haven point.

Once in the care of the ambulance service both Poole and Swanage lifeboats returned to the vessel and the D class was stood down.

Swanage lifeboat attached a tow and made their way through Poole Harbour and towed the vessel onto a commercial berth where the fire service and Poole Coastguard were waiting to check the vessel over. The fire service confirmed the vessel was now safe.

Poole lifeboat was re-fuelled and ready for service by 10:50pm.
