Stromness RNLI Lifeboat searches for missing walker

The RNLI Lifeboat, Violet Dorothy and Kathleen, based at Stromness, Orkney, was involved in the search for a missing walker yesterday afternoon (20 June)

The volunteer crew launched Violet Dorothy and Kathleen at 2.21 to help in a search being coordinated by local coastguards for a walker reported overdue along the shore close to Stromness Harbour. The all weather lifeboat searched around the holms, both inside and outside the harbour while its small RIB, known as the Y-boat, searched closer in and around the piers.

Coastguard teams from Kirkwall and St Margaret's Hope joined in searching along the shore and it was they who found the missing lady shortly afterwards.

The lifeboat was back alongside her pontoon and being refuelled by 3.30. The walker was being attended by ambulance personel from Kirkwall.
