A busy period for the volunteers at Largs RNLI
Largs RNLI Lifeboat, R A Wilson, launched on two occasions, the first to assist a grounded yacht and the second to a person on-board a yacht requiring medical assistance.
The lifeboat proceeded to the location to find the yacht grounded on a falling tide. Crew members waded to the casualty, went onboard to inspect for damage, none being found.
The occupant of the yacht advised the crew that he was happy to remain on board until the next high tide to allow for re-floating of the yacht. To assist this operation the lifeboat crew laid a kedge anchor and following further reassurances from the occupant that he was perfectly happy to 'sit it out' the lifeboat returned to station and was rehoused at 4.00pm.
On Saturday (15/06 )at 7.30pm the volunteer crew launched to a 12 metre yacht,which had experienced engine failure off Toward Point, with one of the two occupants experiencing severe sea sickness, a situation which was exacerbating a pre-existing medical condition.
Two crew members went on-board the yacht, carried out their Casualty Care protocols resulting in the decision to urgently land the casualty for further medical support.
The person was taken on board the lifeboat and landed in Rothesay Harbour into the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service. The lifeboat then returned to the yacht and took it in tow to Rothesay where assistance was given in berthing the vessel and landing the remaining occupant.
The lifeboat then returned to Largs, was refuelled washed down and rehoused at 10.00pm.
