Filey RNLI launches to fishing boat.
A fishing boat on passage from Scarborough to Bridlington which had suffered engine problems led to Filey RNLI crew being called out in the early hours today (Wednesday 5th June)
Just after 3.30am, UK Coastguard (Humber) requested the launch of Filey’s Mersey class all-weather lifeboat (ALB) , Keep Fit Association, to assist the 30 foot fishing boat, Mary Ellen, with two persons on board, which had suffered an engine failure about one mile south-east of Filey Brigg,
A short time later, the ALB launched under the command of Coxswain/Mechanic Neil Cammish with Dave Eblet, Tom Barkley, Ian Butler, Jon Harrison, Vanessa Thomas and Lewis Frampton as crew.
The ALB was alongside Mary Ellen within 10 minutes and after transferring a crew member onto the fishing boat, took the vessel under tow to Bridlington where she was moored safely at about 6am.
The lifeboat returned to Filey to be recovered at high water and re-carriaged by 8am.
John Ward, Filey Lifeboat Press Officer, said: “It was a bit of an early start for us this morning. It was a straight-forward tow to Bridlington; one of a number of call-outs that the all-weather boat has had over the last two weeks. Many thanks for the large number of Filey RNLI personnel who turned out of bed this morning, some of whom will have gone straight to work after the boat came ashore”
