Calshot RNLI launch to calls for medical assistance and kite surfer difficulty
At 6.28pm on Sunday 28 July, Calshot RNLI Atlantic 85 Lifeboat 'Max Walls' was requested to launch by the HM Coastguard after a Mayday call came in to report a casualty in need of medical assistance off of Hill Head.
When Calshot RNLI volunteers arrived on scene both persons from the casualty vessel were then on the workboat. Two casualty care trained RNLI crew boarded to assess the casualty who was cold, wet, and in need of minor medical assistance.
Calshot crew wrapped the casualty in a casualty pouch, hood and gloves to warm them up, then transferred them to the Atlantic 85 Lifeboat to take them to Calshot Lifeboat Station. Here they were met with RNLI shore crew who assisted the casualty into the station, due to the casualties condition beginning to deteriorate the South Central Ambulance Service were called and took over care of the casualty.
Meanwhile, Calshot RNLI boat crew were returning to pick up the casualty speed boat when the Atlantic 85 Lifeboat was requested to divert to pick up two kite surfers who had got into difficulties off of Calshot beach.
One kite surfer had made their way to shore, Calshot RNLI volunteers picked up the second kite surfer who was struggling to get back to shore after the wind had dropped. Once returned to shore and happy the person needed no further assistance, the Lifeboat returned to Hill Head to collect the 17ft speedboat and towed in back to Calshot. Once there the volunteer shore crew were able to help the owner put the boat back on it's trailer.
The Atlantic 85 Lifeboat returned to station at 9pm and was made ready again for service.
