Walmer volunteer honoured following twenty years of service to the Institution saving lives at sea.

Walmer crew member Andrew Murray celebrates his 20 Year Award with his family.
At the annual crew and supporter barbecue on Sunday 21 July, Lifeboat Operations Manager Denis Brophy presented local farmer and volunteer Andrew Murray with his 20 Year Service Award. While congratulating him on his award, Denis praised Andrew for his commitment, describing him as a strong and reliable crew member.

Speaking after receiving the award Andrew said “I would like to thank everybody here at Walmer. When I first walked into the station twenty years ago they immediately made me feel welcome and are like a family to me.’

The RNLI charity saves lives at sea. Its volunteers provide a 24-hour search and rescue service around the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland coasts. The RNLI operates 238 lifeboat stations in the UK and Ireland and more than 240 lifeguard units on beaches around the UK and Channel Islands. The RNLI is independent of Coastguard and government and depends on voluntary donations and legacies to maintain its rescue service. Since the RNLI was founded in 1824, its lifeboat crews and lifeguards have saved over 146,000 lives.
