Moelfre RNLI Dash to Rescue Paddleboarder and Dog.
RNLI Moelfre Inshore Lifeboat Enfys 2 was requested to launch at 11:24am (Sunday June 30), after H.M Coastguard received reports of three persons in difficulties, whilst paddleboarding near Lligwy.
The RNLI volunteers decided to head for the casualty who had drifted furthest offshore, as the sea state was deteriorating in the strong offshore wind. The casualty was found approximately 1 mile offshore towards Ynys Dulas. Once on scene, the crew members noticed that the female casualty had a dog with her. The dog and female casualty were then helped aboard the ILB and the stand-up paddleboard was also placed on the ILB.
In the meantime, the Moelfre volunteer crew members were informed by radio, that the other two casualties had made it ashore and were met by the Moelfre Coastguard team. Moelfre ILB with the casualties onboard, then headed for Lligwy beach so that the casualties could safely be reunited.
RNLI volunteer helm B L Taylor said. “It’s important that when venturing out on the water that everybody wears a personal flotation device (PFD) and also carry some means of alerting the rescue services”
This wasn’t the only call out of the day, at 9:55 pm HM Coastguard paged our volunteers that a small RIB had lost all propulsion, the ILB Enfys 2 was quickly but safely launched to tow the casualty vessel from the North of Ynys Moelfre to a safe mooring in Moelfre Bay.
Enfys 2 was soon back on the slip where she was refuelled washed down and made ready for her next call to service.
