Surprise visit for 18 young new swimmers from the Plymouth RNLI.
Plymouth RNLI crew and Stormy Stan surprise 18 young people at Plymouth life centre to present them with certificate’s and medal’s after completing their block of twelve swimming lessons with Making Waves Together.
The Making Waves Together Project is a Family Funded Project of Sport England, endeavouring to get families active by utilising the natural resources of the sea. Targeting families in the PL1 and PL2 postcodes of Plymouth, as well learners at the Plymouth School of Creative Arts.
On 3rd February Making Waves Together had the final sessions of the first block of 12 swimming lessons at the Life Centre, where they took complete beginners and/or nervous children and introduced them to the techniques, skills and fun are the first step of their watery journey.
It is a 3 year project and in the first 6 months has already made significant ripples in the local community and is gaining popularity. Making waves together focus on swimming, surfing, sailing, kayaking and stand up paddle boarding (SUP'ping). All the while strengthening family bonding, providing the foundations for active and healthy lives, working with Plymouth Lifeboat crew and local Police Officers, and getting the principles to respect the water and know to phone 999 and ask for the coastguard for help if they see someone in trouble.
As part of the celebration evening on the final session three members of the Plymouth RNLI Lifeboat crew attended as well as Stormy Stan (the RNLI mascot) to present the children with their swimming certificates and medals.
