Force 4 Safety Awareness Challenge raises over £500 for RNLI

Three friends, led by Jonny Dalmas from Force 4’s Shamrock Quay store, showed off their caring side when they took part in an endurance challenge to raise money for the RNLI at the MDL Marina at Shamrock Quay, Southampton in June.

The team, consisting of Jonny, Isabella Drewitt from the British Racing Team and Louis Day from Solent Boat Training, spent 8 hours afloat in a liferaft - supplied by Seago Yachting - which was moored outside the Marina Office.

The challenge, coinciding with Force 4 Shamrock's Safety Awareness Day, raised over £500 for the RNLI.

'I'm a keen sailor myself,' says Jonny 'and I know the dangers of being out at sea. The RNLI tackles those dangers daily, to save the lives of people like me. I wanted to say thank you, so we came up with the liferaft challenge'. The weather on the day added to the need for stamina. 'The forecast was for storms and heavy rain, luckily the wind was lighter than forecast. It did rain though, heavily at times and we got wet when the canopy entrance was open.' Eight hours is a long day in a confined space. 'It was a struggle to get comfortable at first,' says Jonny. 'We kept ourselves going with card games and conversation, and now we all know a lot more about each other and we've helped the RNLI'.

Calshot's Lifeboat Operations Manager Diane Carrier and volunteer crew travelled by lifeboat from Calshot Lifeboat Station to Shamrock Quay to collect the cheque on behalf of the RNLI.
