Filey RNLI search for missing person
Filey RNLI Lifeboat crew were called out late evening yesterday (Wednesday 24 April) to assist in a search for an elderly man.
Just before 9.30pm., UK Coastguard (Humber) requested the launch of Filey’s inshore lifeboat (ILB), Braund, to assist North Yorkshire Police and local Coastguard Rescue Teams search for an 87 year old man who had been missing from a seaside property for about six hours.
In complete darkness and with a heavy onshore swell, the ILB launched about 4 minutes later with Paul Wilson, Sam Cross and Vanessa Thomas as crew.
The crew carried out a shoreline search as far south as Bempton Cliffs (about five miles) before concentrating on an area just off Reighton.
After two hours, the gentleman was fortunately found inland but not far from the sea and returned safely to his family.
