Ramsey RNLI – Station 138 in the RNLI-911 Challenge

Belinda and James Richardson, a retired couple from London, are driving around the coast of Britain and Ireland visiting every RNLI lifeboat station in their Porsche 911. Their goal is to drive anti-clockwise around the whole of the British Isles and Ireland visiting ALL 238 RNLI Lifeboat Stations in a Porsche 911 within 911 hours to raise in excess of £238 per lifeboat station totalling in £56,644! They intend on visiting each station for 15 minutes before they need to move on to the next station, undertaking small challenges at each station and hopefully joining the crew volunteers for a cuppa.

The intrepid pair started their phenomenal undertaking from Teddington RNLI lifeboat station at 9.11am on Monday 23 August 2018 and are aiming to finish their journey 238 RNLI stations later at Tower RNLI on Sunday 30 September 2018 at 8.11am.

Belinda and James plus ‘Splash’, their iconic bright orange sports car, were in the Isle of Man yesterday visiting the Island’s five RNLI Stations – Douglas, Ramsey, Peel, Port Erin and Port St Mary. Ramsey was station 138 in their journey.

Ramsey RNLI Station Mechanic Ali Clague said: ‘It was great to welcome Belinda and James to the Isle of Man and Ramsey and also to see Splash their Porsche 911 close up. They are so enthusiastic about their venture and also the RNLI charity.

‘An interesting feature of their journey is to get each station to tie any type of marine knot in a one metre length of thin blue rope. This is then attached to a 23.8 metre length of orange rope. Ours was a monkey’s paw knot, deftly tied by Kim, our DLA. The rope plus all 238 knots will finally adorn a 3 metre high map of the British Isles with each knot indicating its station.

‘All hands here at Ramsey RNLI wish Belinda and James all the best for their onward journey. We are looking forward to seeing them complete their journey at Tower Lifeboat Station in London on the 30 September. We wish to thank them and all those who are supporting them in this endeavour and ultimately assisting the RNLI with its work, helping to save lives at sea.’
