Two shouts for Littlehampton RNLI.
Both of Littlehampton lifeboats were launched during last Friday afternoon and evening to rescue a dog and later search for a person reported to be in the water.
At 1:32pm on Friday 19 October following a call from the UK Coastguard the station’s volunteer crew launched the D Class inshore lifeboat Ray of Hope and headed out to the entrance of the harbour, where the dog had been reported to be in the water. At the scene the lifeboat crew recovered the dog to the lifeboat and returned it to its grateful owner who was on the beach on the west side of the river. The lifeboat returned to the station at 1:48pm.
Just before ten o’clock on Friday evening the station’s Atlantic 85 lifeboat Renée Sherman and volunteer crew were tasked by the UK Coastguard to search for a person reported to be in the water close to Bognor Regis pier. Arriving at the scene at 10:18pm the lifeboat crew commenced an extensive search pattern, half a mile west of the pier to 100 metre’s east. During the search, the lifeboat crew received a call from the UK Coastguard requesting the lifeboat to stand down as the search had proved inconclusive. The lifeboat returned to the station at 11:03pm, where it was made ready for service.
