Peel RNLI launched following reports of a person stranded on vessel
Peel RNLI’s lifeboat was launched today (Sunday 27th May) following reports of a man stranded on a vessel experiencing mechanical problems
Isle of Man Coastguard had been alerted by the man onboard who had identified his position one mile West of Dalby. Peel RNLI’s all-weather lifeboat Ruby Clery was launched at 1.55pm, in a slight to moderate sea, to assist the person who had been heading towards Peel.
Arriving at the location, the volunteer crew was initially unable to locate the vessel and so conducted a thorough search of the coast line. Remaining in contact with the Coast Guard, Peel’s volunteer crew were eventually made aware that the casualty vessel, which had been identified as a rigid inflatable boat and not a jet ski, as first thought, had rectified its mechanical problems and arrived safely in Peel harbour.
The inshore lifeboat Ruby Clery’s was stood down and arrived back in Peel at 2.55pm.
Speaking following the call out, Marc Vincent, Peel RNLI Volunteer Lifeboat Press Officer said: ‘As we continue to enjoy the Bank Holiday, we would remind everyone to respect the water. Always plan your trip, wear a lifejacket and carry a means of communication. Should you get into difficulty dial 999 or 112 and ask for the Coastguard.’
