The High Sheriff of Lancashire honours the Lytham St Annes RNLI Lifeboat Station
“Great and valuable service to the community” recognised
A group representing all the Lifeboat Station volunteers travelled to County Hall at Preston on Monday 26th March 2018 to meet the High Sheriff of Lancashire, Robert Webb JP DL at the annual awards ceremony and receive a certificate. The Station was one of fifteen volunteer and charitable organisations from all over the County to receive the award in recognition of “great and valuable service to the community.”
The award also recognised the appreciation of the residents and people of the High Sheriff’s County for activity and contribution in enhancing the life of the community.
The Station personnel at the ceremony were Lifeboat Operations Manager Pete Whalley, Coxswain Gary Bird, Station Chairman Richard Freeman, Fundraising Branch Chairman Digby Moulden and Deputy Launching Authority David Forshaw.
Coxswain Gary Bird accepted the certificate and citation from the High Sheriff, Her Majesty the Queen’s representative in Lancashire, and thanked him for the honour.
Peter Whalley later said, “It was pleasing that all our volunteers, both crew and fundraisers, have been recognised by the High Sheriff for all their hard work and dedication to saving lives at sea. We all thank him.”

The RNLI charity saves lives at sea. Its volunteers provide a 24-hour search and rescue service around the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland coasts. The RNLI operates 238 lifeboat stations in the UK and Ireland and more than 240 lifeguard units on beaches around the UK and Channel Islands. The RNLI is independent of Coastguard and government and depends on voluntary donations and legacies to maintain its rescue service. Since the RNLI was founded in 1824, its lifeboat crews and lifeguards have saved over 146,000 lives.
