Children offered lifesaving skills during launch of safety initiative in Wales

Pupils from Ysgol Ffridd y Llyn were given safety advice around lifejackets, cold water shock and the importance of visiting beaches which are lifeguarded. They were also given the opportunity to try their hand at throwline training.

The safety morning was the mark the start of a new pan-Wales campaign calling on people to ‘Be Adventure Smart’. The initiative is supported by more than 35 partner organisations sharing the same aim of ensure people enjoy the outdoors in safety.

Chris Cousens, RNLI Community Safety Partner for Wales and the west says:

‘As we approach the Easter holidays, the RNLI is delighted to be part of this Wales-wide initiative to ensure people think safety before setting off to enjoy the great outdoors. Whether it be using the sea or walking, whatever activity, Adventure Smart Wales offers the necessary advice which is readily available on the website - AdventureSmartWales.com.

‘The RNLI was delighted to attend the Snowdonia National Park authority event this morning and hope children take away some vital skills around water safety both inland and on the coast.’

The new website, provides essential information for getting outdoors and being prepared. It encourages people to consider a variety of safety elements such as whether they have checked the tide times, weather forecast and whether they have the correct knowledge and skills before heading off on their adventure.

Also launched are three new short films showcasing the wealth of adventures to be had in Wales, highlighting how to be kitted up and in the know to be safe.
