It's not every day that the Chief Executive of the RNLI pays a visit to the local RNLI station, especially for a social occasion, a quick chat and to see how everything is progressing, so the local crew and volunteers were very keen to brave the cold weather and come and meet him.

To give him his full title, Vice Admiral Paul Boissier CB MA MSc joined the RNLI in 2009 and is now the Chief Executive. After graduating in mechanical engineering from Cambridge University he joined the Royal Navy where he specialised in navigation and served on a variety of submarines.

This led to two submarine commands - HMS Onyx and HMS Trafalgar before he moved into the surface fleet as the Captain of HMS Chatham. He then moved ashore as the Commander of Portsmouth naval base before moving to Bristol as the Chief of Fleet Support. His naval career finally ended with two years as the Chief Operating Officer of the Royal Navy, based in Portsmouth.

He still managed to find time during his busy naval career to spend a year at the London Business School where he graduated with a Masters degree in Business Management and for a bit of variety, at a younger age, spent a year working for Guinness, where he trained as a brewer.

During his visit to Ramsgate he spent time with the crew listening to any feedback they had which he promised to to take back to the RNLI's HQ in Poole and also meeting the volunteers, fundraisers and supporters.

Upon his return he sent a lovely email thanking the crew for their warm hospitality and saying how pleased he was to meet everyone. He finished by saying that Ramsgate has a great team and he appreciates everything that they do to keep people safe on this stretch of water.
