Rugby star Jack Nowell motivates mum on Mother’s Day
England rugby star Jack Nowell is no stranger to a physical challenge; and for Mother’s Day he'll be supporting his mum as she trains for the London Marathon in April – running in aid of the RNLI.
Jack says, ’I’m so proud that my mum is running the London Marathon this year; she always comes to my games to support me, so I’m glad I can finally repay her by supporting her for once! I’m especially proud as she’s running on behalf of the RNLI, which is a charity very close to our family’s heart.
‘My Mum has always been a huge support to me with my rugby career; she would always take me to training when I was a kid. In fact I didn’t really like rugby very much when I was younger, and it’s thanks to my Mum’s perseverance in taking me to training that I carried on and now play professionally! If it wasn’t for my mum I’d never be playing for England.’
This is the first year Jack’s mum, Louisa Nowell, is running the London Marathon, who along with her sister, aims to raise £5,000 for the RNLI.
Louisa says, ‘running the marathon is quite a daunting task, but Jack has given me some useful fitness and diet tips, which have really helped my preparation. I’m extremely nervous, but also very excited about raising funds and helping the RNLI. Having lived in a fishing village all of my life and my husband being a fisherman, I’ve always known how vitally important the RNLI can be. I hope I do them proud!’
Here are Jack’s top tips for motivation when taking on a physical challenge:
-
‘Like any job there are days when you don’t feel 100% and it’s hard to motivate yourself. I find having my teammates around me a huge help and motivator during the cold dark hours. Knowing you’re all in it together makes it so much easier, so training with a partner can help get you through the harder sessions.’
