BUSY ARMED FORCES DAY FOR LLANDUDNO RNLI CREW
Llandudno's RNLI all-weather lifeboat launched during the resort's busy National Armed Forces Day to go to the assistance of a pleasure craft with four people on board which was adrift some distance from the Conwy Fairway buoy.
The 35' yacht 'Footsie' had suffered engine failure and was drifting towards Puffin Island in the fresh easterly breeze.
Launching just after 1.30 p.m. the lifeboat made a fast passage to the casualty, which was then quickly taken in tow. Then followed a slow transit back to Conwy Marina, accompanied by Conwy's inshore lifeboat, through the Conwy approach channel, which was busy with pleasure craft returning to the town after viewing the flying display from afloat the yacht was placed safely on a berth in Conwy marina.
By 3.45 p.m. the lifeboat was back in Llandudno bay, to lie off for a time whilst the station's inshore lifeboat launched for an exercise, having the dual purpose of training and providing safety cover for the Royal Air Force Falcons parachute team scheduled drop from a RAF Hercules onto Bodafon fields.
Both lifeboats were ashore by 4.50 p.m.
