Porthdinllaen and Abersoch RNLI Lifeboats launch to search for overdue craft.
A 14 foot rigid inflateable boat with four persons on board, and overdue from Abersoch, were the centre point of a huge search in Caernarfon and Cardigan Bays on Sunday evening.
A major search was launched on Sunday, June 24th with RNLI Lifeboats from Porthdinllaen and Abersoch , assisted by Coastguard teams from Abersoch, Porthdinllaen and Llandwrog and the HM Coastguard Rescue Helicopter from Caernarfon Airport to search for a Rigid Inflatable Boat with four persons on board, which had set off from Abersoch at 10 o clock in the morning.
Information came to light that the occupants of the craft had arranged to call at Nefyn Beach during the day. Porthdinllaen RNLI searched the coast down to Bardsey Sound and the craft was located North of the Sound by Porthdinllaen RNLI team, making its way back to Abersoch.
It was decide that Abersoch lifeboat would escort the craft back to Abersoch, relieving Porthdinllaen from its duties and returning to station, refueled and ready for her next service by 8:30 PM
Ken Fitspatrick, Launch Operations Manager added ‘It`s important that you always inform someone ashore, where and when you intend to visit and if any plans are altered, that you keep persons up to date of any amendments. Its also essential that you wear a lifejacket for personal safety and carry some means of communication such as VHF radio and safety equipment that includes distress flares’.
