Injured teenager rescued by Peel RNLI lifeboat crew

Peel RNLI’s all-weather lifeboat Ruby Clery was launched at 10.10pm following reports of a teenager who had fallen 7 metres onto rocks and required urgent medical attention.

The volunteer crew were called to the Old baths beach in Peel to assist local coastguards who were already in attendance.

Once on scene Peel RNLI volunteer crew launched their small daughter boat with two crew members, trained in casualty care, aboard.

Once on the beach the two crew members provided immediate first aid but assessed that the casualty required additional emergency medical attention. The teenager was placed in a stretcher and taken off the beach quickly in the daughter boat.

Once transferred onto the Mersey lifeboat crew members monitored the teenagers condition whilst the Ruby Clery made its way to Peel breakwater where Peel RNLI shore crew were waiting to transfer the casualty into a waiting ambulance. The teenager was then taken to Nobles hospital for further assessment of their condition.

Following the call out Peel RNLI Coxswain Frankie Horne explained: “The crew were paged at 10.00pm and responded immediately. We were able to get the lifeboat as close as we could to the beach but required the use of our daughter boat to help transfer our trained casualty carers to the teenager’s location. Tonight’s call out was another example of how valuable our casualty care training is and how well we continue to work as a crew and with the local coastguard”
