UK Coastguard had received a call from the 40 foot yacht with 5 persons on board, that they had suffered mechanical failure on their engine and had problems with one of their sails, were unable to navigate the Caernarfon Bar under her own power, weather was calm with a slight breeze of Force 4 to 5 in strength.

Porthdinllaen RNLI Lifeboat and her voluntary crew were launched at 4:55PM and located the yacht by the Fairway Buoy near Llanddwyn. A tow line was successfully passed to the crew of the yacht and once secured, the lifeboat began the tow of the craft to Caernarfon. Upon arrival at Caernarfon, the vessel was securely moored to a courtesy mooring buoy in the Menai Straits, with the lifeboat returning to station and ready for her next service by 8:00PM

Ken Fitspatrick, Launch Operation Manager at Porthdinllaen said ‘Caernarfon bar can be a difficult channel to navigate with her constant shifting sandbanks. We were glad to be of assistance, ensuring the safe passage of the vessel to Caernarfon for repairs’.
