Troon and Largs lifeboats assist fishing vessel with fouled propeller

At 9.04am on Saturday 16 June 2018, the volunteer crew of Troon lifeboat were paged by Belfast Coastguard to assist Largs lifeboat crew after a 10m fishing vessel with two persons on board reported it had a fouled propeller near to Little Cumbrae.

The Trent class all-weather lifeboat RNLB Jim Moffat was soon underway and after a short passage observed Largs lifeboat, Atlantic 85 inshore lifeboat R A Wilson and the casualty vessel.


The tow was transferred to the all-weather lifeboat and the casualty vessel was taken under tow towards Fairlie Quay Marina. As the all-weather lifeboat approached the marina, the casualty was transferred back to Largs inshore lifeboat who berthed the casualty vessel in the marina with the assistance of the Ardrossan Coastguard Rescue Team.

With the casualty vessel alongside, the lifeboats were able to stand down and return to their respective stations.

About 11.45am, Troon all-weather lifeboat arrived back at station, where the lifeboat it was refuelled and made 'Ready for Service' with the assistance of the shore crew.
