Troon inshore lifeboat launches to yacht with machinery problems

At 6.29pm on Wednesday 6 June 2018, the volunteer crew of Troon inshore lifeboat were requested to launch by Belfast Coastguard after reports of a 34ft yacht with one person on board that had suffered machinery failure outside the entrance to Troon harbour.

A passing vessel had initially assisted the casualty vessel but could not tow them so the lifeboat crew were then requested to assist.

The crew attended at the lifeboat station and with the shore crew quickly launched the D class inshore lifeboat Sheena.

The inshore lifeboat was soon alongside the casualty vessel just outside the harbour and the crew set up a tow.

Just after 7pm, following a short tow, the casualty vessel was berthed alongside in Troon marina with the assistance of Ayr Coastguard Rescue Team.

The inshore lifeboat then returned to station where it was recovered and made ‘ready for service’ with assistance of the shore crew.
