Ramsey RNLI volunteers assist small day vessel in TT Mad Sunday call-out
Ramsey RNLI was launched yesterday at 19:03, Sunday 3 June, to render assistance to a small day vessel with two people on board.
The 16 foot vessel was returning from Peel to Ramsey and ran out of fuel approximately half a mile east of the Point of Ayre.
In fair weather conditions and a slight sea, relief lifeboat 12-21 with coxswain Mark Kenyon at the helm quickly established radio contact with the vessel and was alongside by 19:25. It was determined that the two people on board were unhurt and wearing lifejackets and a tow was safely established. The small vessel was gently towed to the entrance of Ramsey Harbour.
The lifeboat could not enter the Harbour because the tide was rapidly dropping and there was not enough depth of water. Ramsey RNLI’s Talus tractor T101, with tractor drivers Martin Packard and Jack Warrilow at the controls, took over the tow and pulled the vessel to the first set of harbour steps. The vessel and occupants were safely handed over to the care of Ramsey Coastguard. The tractor returned to the beach and awaiting shore crew where relief lifeboat 12-21 Margaret Jeanwas recovered to the carriage and returned to the boathouse.
Ramsey’s all-weather Mersey class lifeboat 12-14 Ann & James Ritchieis currently awaiting essential engine works and is temporarily out of service. Relief all-weather lifeboat Mersey class 12-21 Margaret Jean is temporarily on service at Ramsey RNLI whilst this work is carried out.
