Queenborough all tide landing venue for fundraising handover.
Sheerness RNLI Lifeboat was the recipient of a significant sum raised at the Queenborough Independence Day last year.
The coxswain and crew of the Sheerness lifeboat came alongside the Queenborough all tide landing with the all-weather lifeboat The George and Ivy Swanson on Sunday 3 June where they were met by representatives of the Queenborough Independence Day committee who handed over a cheque for £1500 which was raised at last years event for the RNLI.
The cheque was presented to Sheerness lifeboat coxswain Robin Castle by Councillor Cameron Beart, chairman of the Queenborough Independence Day committee.
Cameron said :’This morning I had the great pleasure as chairman of the Queenborough Independence Day committee to hand over a cheque for £1,500 to the crew of the Sheerness RNLI Lifeboats.
This money was raised at our event last year but following multiple attempts and cancellations we had been unable to hand it over officially until today.
We hope that this year’s event, in two weeks’ time, will be bigger and better than last year and I hope that those attending will dig deep and help us raise more money for such a worthy cause. Follow our event page for all the latest information.
Finally, I would just like to say a huge thank you to all the volunteer crew of our lifeboats for what you do, Saving Lives at Sea.’
Sheerness lifeboat coxswain said:’ we are very grateful for the donation and are looking forward to this year’s Independence Day celebrations on the 16 June when we will also be holding our Annual Open Day at Queenborough.The lifeboats will be alongside from 10.00am for the public to come on board and talk to the crew and look over the lifeboats.There will also be representatives from the RNLI Lifeguards and Sheppey Coastguard Rescue Team on hand onshore for the public to ask questions and view the comprehensive rescue and lifesaving equipment that is required to save lives and bring casualty’s to safety when the need arises around our beaches and shoreline. All services will combine on the day in giving lifesaving and rescue drill demonstrations.’
