Lifeboats News Release

Residents and holidaymakers are invited to Paignton Harbour on Saturday 28 July to see Torbay’s powerful all-weather relief lifeboat Volunteer Spirit, which will be available for public tours from 6.30pm until 8.30pm*

Visitors can go aboard the Severn class lifeboat, meet the volunteer lifeboat crew and look at the amazing range of navigational and life-saving equipment on board Torbay’s ‘big’ boat. The 2-hour evening visit window in the enclosed harbour area is dictated by the tides, so be sure to come along and enjoy seeing the impressive lifeboat looking picturesque in Paignton’s historic harbour as the sun goes down …

The Community Safety Team will be on hand that evening to offer a free lifejacket clinic and advice across the spectrum of activities whether afloat or waterside, offer specific in-depth vessel equipment checks on board or arrange to attend your organisation to deliver presentations. They will also be at Noss Marina between 10am and 12 noon on the same day … for more coastal safety information, please contact John on 07866 689 315. Torbay Lifeboat Fundraisers will also be at the Festival with their souvenir stand and a 'Cover the Flag' event.

However, don’t despair if you’re unable to see the all-weather boat at Paignton – visitors will have many opportunities to go aboard during RNLI Torbay’s build up to the Seaside Special this year, with visits at 10am/11am from Sunday 5 until Friday 10 August, then tours available 10.00am until 3.30pm on Seaside Special day itself, Sunday 12 August. It is hoped that Torbay’s own Severn class lifeboat, Alec & Christina Dykes, will be back in time for Seaside Special, and visitors will also be able to see the RNLI Torbay inshore D Class lifeboat Leslie & Mary Daws at the boathouse.*

Seaside Special 2018 is going to be better than ever; the RNLI Torbay team are offering lifeboat tours, 2 Lighthouse Run, Paddle Grand Prix, try canoeing, water ball challenge (zorbing), jet ski and flyboard displays, BBQ and bar, live music on the Sound Stage until 10pm, a fabulous Search & Rescue demonstration, stalls, tea room, evening cruise, annual service of dedication, candlelit breakwater, walk the extra mile and a grand fireworks finale – come and join us this year to support YOUR local lifeboats! Seaside Special booklet now available online (link below) or from many local outlets.
