Troon inshore lifeboat launches to inflatable kayak at Ayr
At 2.53pm on Sunday 1 July 2018, Troon lifeboat crew were paged by Belfast Coastguard after reports of a person in an inflatable kayak near the entrance to Ayr harbour.
Officers from Police Scotland had also been notified and were attending the incident along with Ayr Coastguard Rescue Team.
The D Class inshore lifeboat Sheena was launched and the volunteer crew were soon heading to the scene.
The inshore lifeboat arrived at Ayr and the crew were directed towards the casualty and the inflatable kayak. With the Police and Coastguard team on the harbourside, and the inshore lifeboat now on scene, the casualty paddled towards some steps and was assisted ashore by the crew and coastguard personnel.
The casualty, who was not wearing a lifejacket and not suitably equipped to head to sea, was given some safety advice and decided not venture back out on their new purchase.
With the casualty safely ashore, and no further assistance required, the lifeboat was able to return to station where it was made 'Ready for Service' with the assistance of the shore crew.
