Troon lifeboats launch to person in the water at Irvine harbour
At 9.46am, on Tuesday 23 January 2017, Troon lifeboat crew were paged after reports to Belfast Coastguard of a person in the water at Irvine harbour.
The lifeboat crew quickly launched the Trent class all-weather lifeboat RNLB Jim Moffat and D Class inshore lifeboat
Telford Shopping Centre to the scene. Also tasked by Belfast Coastguard were the Ayr and Ardrossan Coastguard Rescue Teams and well as the Coastguard Search and Rescue helicopter from Prestwick, Rescue 199 to assist colleagues from Police Scotland and the Scottish Ambulance service who were also heading to the incident.
The lifeboats made best speed to Irvine harbour with the D Class inshore lifeboat heading up river to the location of the casualty who had now been recovered from the water. Due to the position of the casualty, the Coastguard Search and Rescue Helicopter Rescue 199 began airlifting them to a more suitable position to be treated by paramedics.
The lifeboats remained on scene until this was successfully completed and the casualty was transferred to the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service.
With the casualty on route to hospital by ambulance, the all-weather lifeboat then returned to Troon. Due to the sea conditions, the inshore lifeboat was recovered at Irvine for transportation back to Troon by road.
On arrival, back at the station, the lifeboats were made ‘Ready for Service’ with the assistance of the shore crew.
No further details about the condition of the casualty are known.
