Busy night for Blackpool RNLI volunteers
Blackpool RNLI volunteers had a busy night on Sunday 21st January 2018 when they were called out twice in the space of three hours.
The first call came just after 9pm when HM Coastguard received reports that a person could be in the sea somewhere between Central and North Piers. Both of the station’s D class lifeboats launched and carried out an extensive search of the water from South Pier to North Pier. Fortunately the casualty was found safe and well by the Police and the RNLI volunteers were able to return to station.
However just a few hours later the pagers went off for a second time and at 12.35am on Monday morning. Both of the station’s D class lifeboats launched to search for a person in the sea near The Imperial Hotel. Fortunately the second casualty was also found safe & well elsewhere by Police.
Blackpool RNLI volunteer Lifeboat Operations Manager, Keith Horrocks MBE said ‘it’s been a very busy and tiring night for our volunteer and for the other 999 teams that responded to these incidents but we’re all just pleased that both calls had a positive outcome.’
