The lifeboat being launched

The lifeboat was called after the police had received a report of a person on the A48 road bridge at Briton Ferry. The lifeboat proceeded to the River Neath but due to tidal conditions could not go upto the bridge, so it remained on standby a short distant away.

To aid the search by local Coastguard Rescue Teams and police the bridge was closed to traffic in both directions. Additional RNLI crew were also in attendance to be used if required.
After one hour and a quarter no person was found so all services were stood down. The police then reopened the bridge to traffic.
