Early morning call for Mumbles lifeboats

Lifeboats News Release

A lone skipper on a 23ft boat adrift in Swansea bay sparked call for Coastguard and lifeboats help

RNLI/Andy Miles

The volunteer crew of the Mumbles lifeboats were called to the aid of a man on a 23ft motorboat which had lost its anchor in the early hours of the morning.
Both lifeboats were launched and the all weather lifeboat Roy Barker IV was on the scene within 10 minutes of being launched.
Fortunately the team from HM Coastguard were able to rescue the skipper of the stricken boat from the surf on Swansea beach as the boat very quickly was washed ashore just next to the West Pier.
The boats returned to station and were refuelled and ready for launch by 05.30
Lifeboat operations manager Tim Conway said ‘ This could have been a very different situation but fortunately the boat was washed up on the West side of the pier. The volunteer crew were very quick to launch and getting both boats in the water. Our volunteers are on call 24hrs a day for situations just like this’.
