Early start to 2018 for Morecambe’s volunteer lifeboat crew

Lifeboats News Release

Morecambe’s volunteer RNLI lifeboat crew responded to their first ‘shout’ of the New Year to assist with a police incident.

At approximately 6.30 am on Wednesday 10 January 2018, HM Coastguard requested the Morecambe RNLI volunteer lifeboat crew to assist police, fire officers and local coastguards dealing with an incident on the River Lune in Lancaster, between the Millennium and Carlisle bridges. The inshore lifeboat and hovercraft were both en-route to their launch site at Snatchems when they were stood down because the incident, involving a ‘vulnerable’ adult male, had been resolved.

Morecambe RNLI volunteer Lifeboat Operations Manager, Kevin Jackson, said ‘Although we didn’t actually launch on this occasion, as our assistance was not required, the important thing is that the person is safe.’
