There's 'snow stopping' RNLI Lifeguards
Whatever the weather our RNLI Lifeguards are always ready to help.
Lifeguard supervisor Lewis Timson and colleague Gareth Jones from Newquay were delivering a trailer to Penryn, Falmouth this morning when they came across an elderly couple in their 70’s whose car had skidded into the hedge in a country land and become stuck in the snow.
The icy conditions thwarted their efforts to push the car free so after helping the couple into the warmth of their 4x4 vehicle they set up a tow rope.
With Lewis steering their car and Gareth driving the truck they towed them a mile and returned them safely to their home.
The couple had originally gone out to get supplies before the weather closed in.
Lewis said: 'It wasn't our typical rescue but we were very pleased to help and the couple got home safely which is the main thing.'
He added: 'Whether people are on the beach or on the road we would always urge them to be aware of weather conditions and make sure they are properly prepared and have with them a means of communication'.
