Dog stranded on cliffs is rescued by New Quay RNLI

Lifeboats News Release

A major search for a missing dog reached a happy conclusion on Friday (16 February) when the pooch was located by volunteer RNLI crew 10ft up cliffs at Llangrannog.

Milford Haven Coastguard had requested the launch of New Quay RNLI inshore lifeboat due to concerns for the safety of large groups of people walking on the beach and searching for the dog on cliff tops. The dog had been missing since Thursday evening.

New Quay RNLI inshore lifeboat launched at 11.32am on Friday with helmsman Simon Rigby and volunteer crew Dylan Price and Dan McDonald on board.

Roger Couch, New Quay RNLI Lifeboat Operations Manager says:

‘This was one lucky dog indeed. It was pure coincidence we found him as we were simply helping to ensure the safety of those searching, when one of the crew heard a bark. Dan called the dog down and thankfully it jumped to him. This dog had been missing for quite some time so had been extremely lucky. It’s owners were delighted to be reunited with their pet on the beach at Llangrannog.

'The RNLI encourage people to call 999 whenever they see an animal in trouble and not to attempt a rescue themselves. Our volunteer crew got there in time and this rescue had a successful outcome.'
