Plymouth inshore lifeboat crew tasked to white light sighting

Lifeboats News Release

The volunteer crew from Plymouth lifeboat station was launched on service at 6.22pm on Monday 12 February.

A 999 call was received by Falmouth Coastguard from a member of the public who reported seeing some white lights flashing in the vicinity of Pier Cellars and Cawsand Bay. Once on scene the crew on the inshore lifeboat discovered two fishermen that were on the rocks who were absolutely fine. After a check of the rest of Cawsand bay the lifeboat was stood down.

Helm Joe Sibley said: 'While the call out turned out to be a false alarm with good intent, we would like to commend the member of the public who raised the alarm when they saw the white lights flashing. They thought someone was in difficulty and it was right that they called 999 and asked for the Coastguard. Our volunteer crew would sooner be called out to assess a situation and find that all is well than not be called.'
