Lifeboats News Release

A call for help from the UK Coastguard yesterday evening (Thursday), turned the Yarmouth lifeboat crew's weekly training exercise into a real-life rescue.

At 6:55pm the lifeboat was tasked with assisting a 10 metre yacht, with a crew of two on board, that was left stranded off Newtown Creek after her propeller fouled on mooring lines.

The all-weather lifeboat was quickly on scene and a bow tow was established to hold the vessel in position against the ebbing tide.

Meanwhile, the lifeboat's smaller Y-Boat was launched and the volunteer crew members on board were able to sever the entangled lines and free the propeller.

The yacht was then towed to the safety of Yarmouth harbour, with the lifeboat arriving back at station by 8:45pm.
