Beaumaris lifeboat asked to take over a tow of a yacht from another vessel.
The Moelfre inshore lifeboat had been out on exercise when they diverted to a yacht with an engine fault which was being towed by another vessel. In view of the conditions near Penmon the U.K.Coastguard at Holyhead requested that the larger Beaumaris inshore lifeboat take over the tow.
The Moelfre lifeboat had placed a crew member aboard the broken down vessel whilst they escorted the two craft until the arrival of the Beaumaris lifeboat.
Following the request at 2.29 pm from the U.K.Coastguard the volunteer crew launched the Beaumaris Lifeboat Annette Mary Liddinton at 2.35 pm. and proceeded to Llanddona beach.
Just off the beach the tow was transferred from the towing vessel to the Beaumaris Lifeboat who placed one of their crew aboard the yacht whilst the Moelfre lifeboat man returned to his lifeboat.
A tow was then commenced which brought the yacht to a mooring at Beaumaris , the two adults and one child aboard the craft having elected to remain on board contrary to the advice given to them by the helmsman of the lifeboat.
A request was made by the lifeboat crew for the Penmon Coastguard Rescue Team to also attend due to concerns about the safety of the people aboard the boat with regard to the adverse conditions that had been forecast for Saturday night.
However the occupants of the craft subsequently informed the lifeboat crew that they had made arrangements to leave the vessel and a friend would collect them, from the boat.
As the lifeboat was unable to assist further she returned to Beaumaris at 4.15 pm being refuelled, washed down and ready for her next service call by 4.45 pm.
