Troon RNLI launches after reports of a kayaker in difficulty
At 8.28pm on Thursday 9 August 2018, Troon inshore lifeboat was requested to launch by Belfast Coastguard after reports of a possible kayaker in difficulty outside Troon harbour.
A member of the public had contacted the Coastguard reporting their concerns and due to this the D class inshore lifeboat Sheena was requested to launch. The Ardrossan Coastguard Rescue Team were also tasked the scene.
The D class inshore lifeboat was quickly on scene and confirmed the object seen in the fading light outside the harbour was a marker bouy.
With the call confirmed as a False Alarm With Good Intent and no persons were in difficulty, the inshore lifeboat returned to station where it was made ‘Ready for Service’.
Troon RNLI lifeboat Coxswain Joe Millar said, ‘On this occasion the callout was a false alarm but it could easily have been someone in difficulty. If you think you see someone in difficulty at sea or on the coast, dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.’
