At 6.01pm on Saturday 4 August 2018, Troon lifeboat crew were paged by Belfast Coastguard after reports of a motor cruiser aground with two adults and two children on board taking on water near to Hunterston. Largs Inshore Lifeboat Atlantic 85 'R A Wilson'
Troon Trent class all-weather lifeboat RNLB Jim Moffat and Largs inshore lifeboat Atlantic 85 R A Wilson both launched but whilst on route Belfast Coastguard informed the crew that Largs lifeboat was on scene with the casualty vessel and the all-weather lifeboat was no longer required.

Due to this, the crew were then able to return to Troon where the lifeboat was made ‘Ready for Service’ with the assistance of the shore crew.

While on scene, Largs lifeboat made several attempts to tow the casualty vessel to deeper water but the numerous large rocks and an ebbing tide made these attempts unsuccessful.

The vessel was secured by anchor and the casualties were taken aboard the inshore lifeboat before being transferred to the care of Ardrossan and Largs Coastguard Rescue Team at Largs Yacht Haven. Largs lifeboat then returned to station where it was made ‘Ready for Service'.
