Dungeness RNLI honoured with visit from Chelsea Pensioners

Lifeboats News Release

Twelve Chelsea pensioners from the Royal Hospital Chelsea visited the lifeboat station on 2 August 2018. They included Brian Howarth, the ninety-two year old Royal Signals veteran, who parachuted in the Rhine river crossings in 1945.

Volunteer crewmember Natalie Adams gave a presentation and showed videos of their Shannon class lifeboat together with the history of the Dungeness lifeboats and their lady launchers.

Chelsea pensioner Mac McQueen of the Royal Artillery was particularly interested, as he is an active fundraiser for the RNLI.

Captain of Invalids No.1 Company, Captain George Cochlan thanked the RNLI volunteers for a fantastic and enlightening visit.

The Royal Hospital Chelsea has raised money in the past for a lifeboat at Chiswick RNLI on the Thames, called The Chelsea Pensioner (E003).
