Polmear Island

At 7.45pm on Saturday 7 April the pagers went to call the RNLI to rescue casualties who reported being able to see a lighthouse but not Charlestown Harbour.

Three volunteer crewmembers, Malcolm Richardson, Callum Pritchard and Allen Harris, took Olive Three at over 20 knots to find and rescue them and return them to shore.

The couple were cold, tired and stranded. The man had a cut to his leg but otherwise they were fine. Olive Three reached them 10 minutes after leaving Fowey Harbour mouth, checked them over and returned them to Charlestown.

How to stay safe while walking around our beautiful coastline.

  • Be wary of all edges around the sea – slips and falls happen in all locations.
  • Always let someone know where you are going and when you expect to be back.
  • Always take a means of calling for help.
  • Take extra care when walking in dark or slippery conditions.
  • Keep your dog on a lead if you are close to a cliff edge – however high – or fast flowing rivers.
