Poole volunteer Pete presented with certificate of service after stepping down

Pete Smith who recently stood down from the crew was warmly welcomed back to Poole lifeboat station on Thursday April 5th.

Pete was presented with his ‘Thanks from the Institution Inscribed on Vellum’ recognising the volunteering commitment that he had made from 2005 to 2017, during this time as all-weather lifeboat crew, Inshore lifeboat crew and Inshore lifeboat mechanic for the past five years.

Throughout his volunteering time with the station Pete has had various ‘guises’ and we don’t mean hair colour, he has been Pete the rigger, Pete the fisherman and ‘Dog whisperer’ as crowds of people who gathered on a cliff top witnessed after a dog fell nearly 100ft (30m) into the sea. The crowd cheered Pete on as he rescued Molly, a 10-month-old brown Norfolk terrier, who had bounded over Old Harry Rocks, it was a miracle that the Molly was unharmed, Pete scooped her up from the base of the cliff and after a short trip on the lifeboat, reunited her with her family on the beach.

Pete is going to spend more time with his young family, we all wish him well.

Pete also received a framed picture of all the lifeboats he has served on from Poole Lifeboat station volunteer Lifeboat operation Manager, Paul Glatzel.
