Mumbles Lifeboat called to yacht

The volunteer crew of the Mumbles Lifeboat were called by UK Coastguard to the aid of a 29ft yacht in need of help tonight.

Just after 9.15 local time the call was made to the Coastguard from a yacht on route to Swansea was suffering engine trouble 1 mile South of Oxwich point.

The Mumbles All Weather Lifeboat Roy Barker IV arrived on the scene just 20 minutes later.

The yacht had 2 people on board and were slowly making way but were concerned the engine may fail while they were passing Mumbles head.

Coxswain of the Mumbles Lifeboat Martin Double said ‘ The crew were suffering fatigue and we’re immensely grateful they called for help before they got in trouble. There’s a very strong tide around The Mumbles Head with could have been quite dangerous’.

The boat was towed back to the Marina at Swansea.
