Sunday Call For Holyhead Crew

Lifeboats News Release

Holyhead inshore lifeboat crew were called to assist during an incident this afternoon (Sunday September 24th).

A call from HM coastguard at 1.20pm cited a person in difficulties in the water at Church Bay. Further details revealed a fisherman had injured himself trying to get his vessel back onto the shore. Two others assisting him had also become unwell with fatigue. The lobster-pot work boat had sustained some damage and there was concern there would be oil leakage into the sea.

The volunteer crew were quickly on the scene and set about making safe the vessel. Dealing with a strong swell, they managed to get the craft safely beached to prevent any further issues. Meanwhile, coastguard volunteers, the Wales air ambulance and the coastguard helicopter attended the casualty.

The fisherman and one of those assisting were taken to hospital.
The lifeboat was back at the station and ready for service by 3.20pm.
